High School

A Central Expedition…

It’s about more than just academics for our high school students. While we strive for the highest standards in classwork, we are developing critical thinkers, spirit-driven leaders and change-makers who will graduate, launch into the world and do exceptional things beyond our walls.

“I’ve never had a student say they were not prepared for what they want to do. I’ve never had anyone say, ‘I wish you hadn’t pushed me so hard,’ but I’ve had a lot of them say, ‘Thank you for making me work so hard.’”

Mindy Groen, High School Mathematics Teacher

“Our students are given opportunities they would have at any other school, but because we are a private Christian school, we are given more room to discuss real-life issues; we can really engage with students’ questions, their doubts and fears and we can offer a real hope that other institutions may not be able to give. Our hope is not just to produce a high-achieving academic student; we also want our students to graduate and have an impact for the kingdom of God.”

Jimmy Buehler, High School Bible

9th Grade

The Central Expedition begins in 9th grade for students entering High School. Students begin their school day in squads, which consist of students ranging from 9-12 grade, where they learn and grow together through devotions and discipleship activities. As Freshmen, students start taking more ownership of their learning experience. More freedoms and responsibilities are given to our high school students who navigate how to critically think and discern what is good and true (Romans 12:2). Students begin selecting electives and Winterim courses where they can explore their gifts. The Genesis of our High School Bible curriculum starts with the Old Testament and Christian Living for young men and young women.

10th Grade

As students continue their Central Expedition in 10th grade, they begin to have more options for elective classes that fit the unique abilities given to them by God. Students continue to discover how God created them to fulfill good works that He prepared in advance for them to do (Ephesians 2:10). Along with our traditional and elective offerings, students engage in deeper learning of God’s word through the gospels and books of the New Testament.

11th Grade

Students venture into the last half of their Central Expedition in 11th grade where they continue to follow the path that God is calling them to through numerous elective course offerings and experiential learning opportunities. In their studies, students engage in deeper levels of Christian learning through applicable work that contributes to our school and surrounding community. Junior Bible curriculum focuses on World Religions and Church History, as students look at the church as the bride of Christ and see his faithfulness to it, as well as looking at how the branches of Christianity can work together for God’s Kingdom.  Students also focus more on their future career paths by working with their advisors and guidance counselor, and trusting the path the God has paved for them (Proverbs 3:6).

12th Grade

As 12th grade students work to complete their Central Expedition, we celebrate their hard work and commitment throughout their years at Central. Seniors at Central are the leaders of our student body. Students have completed most of their required courses, so they focus on growing in the areas of study that help them live out the calling God has on their lives (2 Peter 1:10-11). Senior Bible curriculum involves a deep dive into how doctrine and worldview shapes our everyday life as Christians. Students will also complete their Faith Formation Portfolio during Senior year that consists of reflections from activities, experiences, schoolwork, chapels, or athletics that were formative in their faith journey at Central from 8th grade through 12th grade. Students have unique opportunities their senior year, including a Government trip to Washington D.C., a senior class trip, and the Senior/Parent Banquet. As our students close this chapter of their lives, we reflect on how our students received a Christ-Centered, quality education that equips them for a life of service.
